RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The National Anticorruption Directorate will continue to have the same determination to fight corruption, even if we have an electoral context, said the institution's chief prosecutor, Marius Voineag, at the annual review meeting.
RRA editor Oana Bala was present at the event and reports: ""Confidence" is the word that sums up the work of the National Anticorruption Directorate over the past year, said the institution's chief prosecutor, Marius Voineag, and he mentioned that it is about the confidence of NAD employees, which is seen in their courage to investigate cases of grand corruption, but also the confidence of citizens to come forward with complaints. The Chief Prosecutor of NAD also presented some highlights of the past year's work.
Marius Voineag: "We wanted to strengthen the institution by increasing our human resources and we managed to hire 29 prosecutors, without taking into account the last procedure through which 23 new prosecutors were validated earlier this year. During 2023, 651 defendants were indicted. There has been a significant increase in the number of defendants brought to trial against whom pre-trial detention orders have been issued. In 2023 we have 2.259 cases compared to 2.087 in 2022."
For this year, in the electoral context, NAD will continue to have the same determination to fight corruption, said Chief Prosecutor Marius Voineag and stressed that the aim is to increase institutional capacity with a focus on human resources policies, but also that the attention will be directed towards the big corruption cases and priority areas with an impact on citizens' lives."
