The National Agency for Tax Administration (ANAF) is preparing tax procedure changes in a bid to get more money from those who own expensive houses and cars. The luxury tax only brought in just over 11 million lei last year.
A year after introducing the tax on expensive mansions and luxury cars, ANAF is proposing a new procedure to collect more money for the state budget.
People who have not filed the 216 declaration, the one for luxury cars and houses, on time will be notified by the tax authorities and even invited to hearings.
According to an ANAF draft, those concerned will have the opportunity to be interviewed by inspectors twice, on the basis of a special form.
If they refuse to talk to the inspectors and do not even declare their tax, ANAF will determine, on the basis of its own calculations, how much is owed.
The inspectors will analyze the financial information they have from other institutions, such as local governments, but they can also use other sources.
The new procedure comes after the state collected little revenue from the so-called luxury tax last year - just over 11 million lei.
This year's estimated revenue is about 13 million lei. The tax is 0.3% of the amount over the ceiling for houses and cars.
For example, for a €600.000 home, the tax is €300 a year, and for a €100.000 car the owner pays €75.
The order applies for the ex officio assessment of the special tax on immovable and movable property due by taxpayers from 2024.
