The names of the joint candidates with which PSD and PNL will participate in the local elections on June 9 will be decided on Monday within the governing coalition, announced PNL President Nicolae Ciuca. He said that the objective of both parties is to regain the mayoralties of the county municipalities, where they do not have mayors, and added that political, and not personal, interests are more important in determining the candidates.
Nicolae Ciuca: As in the Capital, we have found a formula where both parties can ensure political involvement and support for a project that we are convinced will make the people of the Capital give their vote of confidence. We will do the same in the other three county municipalities and here I am referring to Timisoara, Brasov and Bacau. As such, when it comes to personal interests, we must not generalize them one way or the other and keep in mind the political purpose. Each of us is a member of a political party and above us is the interest of the party.
Nicolae Ciuca's statement comes in the context of tensions at the level of the Timis branch of the PNL, which supports its leader, Alin Nica, for a new mandate at the head of the County Council, while the Timis social democrats support the candidacy of their leader Alfred Simonis. Instead, the two parties have agreed to back liberal Nicolae Robu for mayor of Timisoara.
