Producer: Amalia Bojescu - The Minister of Finance, Adrian Caciu, assures that the reforms assumed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan will be carried out. Present at the hour dedicated to the government in the Senate, he said that Romania's economic evolution is a good one, and the deficit will be reduced. The presence of the minister was requested by USR, to explain the reasons why Romania's budget deficit has reached record levels, and the financing costs are some of the highest in the European Union. With details, Alexandra Cristea:
Reporter: The USR representatives, who invited the finance minister, Adrian Caciu, to the Senate, reproached him for lending to Romania at very high costs and huge interest rates. In response, Adrian Caciu said that Romania needs preventive financing in the current geopolitical context and in the conditions of market volatility.
Adrian Caciu: Why did we do this massive pre-financing in the first month? Because we have a war on the border. Last year, when this war broke out, the financial markets became extremely volatile, and Romania suffered on funding between March and May. I am not talking about the explosion of financing costs, and not only Romania, but all the countries in the region. The war did not stop at the border. A prudence urges us that when we have the possibility to finance ourselves, because there is liquidity in the internal and external market, to do it preventively, in the context in which we do not know whether the situation in the area will deteriorate or not.
Reporter: The leader of the AUR senators, Claudiu Tarziu, claimed during the debates that the PSD-PNL government did not bring effective financial measures.
Claudiu Tarziu: Romanians have known for a long time, and feel firsthand, that the optimistic forecasts of the Ministry of Finance and the triumphalist figures presented by the current government are nothing but empty words. We are all more burdened by taxes, duties and various deprivations. PSD and PNL have totally abandoned Romania in favor of political games.
Reporter: The Minister of Finance, Adrian Caciu, expressed his willingness to participate in the debates in the specialized committees of the Senate for more applied discussions.
