The Medieval Festival returns to Oradea Fortress starting with Friday, July 1. The fortress will become a small medieval village with knights, soldiers and ladies, cheerful minstrels and illusionists.
Over 350 medieval fighters and knights from seven European countries will participate in the event, Radio Cluj reports.
The festival includes fighting demonstrations, juggling with fire, music and medieval dances, along with over 30 medieval bands, with minstrels and illusionists from the country and abroad.
They will all live in the park around the fortress, in specific tents, where only medieval objects will be used, including for meals.
The first event of the festival took place Today, June 30, in Unirii Square in Oradea, where the helmet parade took place.
The Oradea Medieval Festival is organized by the Association for the Promotion of Tourism in Oradea and in the region (Visit Oradea) and Oradea City Hall, with the support of the Deus Vult Association and VPK-Packaging.
The Medieval Festival Oradea brings for the first time in Romania a European competition of medieval sports, a status that recognizes the success and quality of previous editions.
Alina Toie, general manager of Visit Oradea, thanked the participants: "We are very pleased to come before you with a new edition of the Oradea Medieval Festival! After a 2-year break, this year's edition is a special one that will include the European Full-Contact Jousting Championship. The festival will host more than 350 participants (medieval fighters and knights, archers and horsemen with catapults and siege weapons) from 7 European countries. There will be a wide variety of activities for all visitors, from small to large: the famous tournaments and spectacular fighting demonstrations, authentic tents specific to the medieval period, medieval activities for children (mini catapults, hay castles), troubadours and of course concerts every evening".
Agerpres quotes Michael Sade, from the Les Ecuyers de l'histoire team, who expressed his joy to return to Oradea and to have the European Full Contact Jousting Championship here for the first time. He also presented in detail the championship, his equipment and armor and that of his colleagues. Their armor weighs between 44 kg and 59 kg.
