Romania was praised in two events held in the US state of Texas on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day for its outstanding contribution to countering anti-Semitism. Romania's ambassador to the United States, Andrei Muraru, was present, along with senior US and Jewish officials. Andrei Muraru paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and highlighted Romania's firm commitment to fight anti-Semitism and any manifestations of intolerance and discrimination.
For his part, Randy Weber, a member of the House of Representatives in the United States Congress, warned of the growing incidence of anti-Semitism in Europe and North America and, consequently, the need to educate future generations to prevent Holocaust-like atrocities. In this context, he congratulated Romania for the decision to introduce a discipline dedicated to the study of the Holocaust in schools.
