The government wants to convince the big stores to lower prices on basic foods on their own initiative, without adopting a normative act in this regard. However, this last option is not excluded, said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. He also said that the starting point in the discussions with the representatives of the supermarket chains is that the Romanian producers are not affected.
Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said that the solution that will be applied to reduce the prices of basic food products, indispensable for the population, i.e. bread, milk, cheese, meat, eggs, flour, oil, oil, vegetables and fresh fruit, has not yet been determined, stating that there are discussions on this topic with retailers.
He explained that he wants to reach an agreement, but if an agreement is not reached with them, then the government's instruments will be used, but regardless of the chosen solution, Romanian producers will not be affected.
Marcel Ciolacu: I want an agreement that we can make by the end of the year, just like what was done in France. I would like less to come up with a normative act, but if this is required, be sure that we will also come up with a normative act.
Asked if certain tax exemptions in the fields of agriculture, IT or construction could be withdrawn, the chief executive explained that in the future we must return to an equal competitive climate in Romania, the period of exceptions on top of exceptions will end, but for now no decision was made.
