Prime Minister Victor Ponta said he will examine the President’s proposals to make from Schengen adherence a national interest objective and that he will make everything related to government, as well as achieving these fundamental goals.

Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that some of the problems presented by the head of state do not depend so much on the Romanian government activities as much as they depend on European political circumstances.

Prime minister also said that all EU policy objectives presented by Traian Basescu are priorities and also on the agenda of the government.

Victor Ponta also referred also to Traian Basescu's proposal to be dismissed ministers that have criminal cases pending in court and said that when justice will finally decide about a case the respective minister will be dismissed, which applies also for the Minister Relu Fenechiu.

"Why cannot justice decide already whether Mr. Fenechiu, five years ago or when was he accused, did something or not, because I have said very clearly the day the first time a judge decide on any member of the government, on that very day, if he is guilty, he leavs the government, "said Victor Ponta.

Senator PDL, Alin Tise, believes that in his speech, President Traian Basescu referred to problems that are beyond political dispute between the parties.

For this reason he criticized the absence of the power of Parliament.

"Beyond being or not at a country's power, Romanians’ problems have no political color. Nowadays, those who lead Romania think about themselves as being eternal and others too have considered themselves eternal, the problem is that all Romanians suffer because 70 percent of exports from Romania are made to EU, and each Romanian would like to travel in the Schengen area without a passport "said Alin Tise.

Before the President’s speech, the Senate President Crin Antonescu reaffirmed that he will not be present in the plenum as no longer considers Traian Basescu the legitimate President of Romania.

We can move the EU border on Prut

President Traian Basescu said in a speech held in front of the Parliament plenary that the main objective to deepen the integration process are the rule of law, efficient and modern, euro adoption and access to the Schengen area.

"I would like to make a presentation on the experience we gained and to present my point of view on the way we have come and what we have done to accelerate the process of EU integration.

"The first one is bound to have a modern, effective rule of law. The second and no less important is related to euro adoption.

"And the third, equally important as the first two, but with a special political significance, is related to access to the Schengen area," said Basescu.

President Traian Basescu proposes to the Parliament and government a partnership to achieve the objective of accession to the Schengen area, saying that it is "a duty to Romanian".

Traian Basescu assured the prime minister and lawmakers of his 'unqualified' desire to have a partnership that will lead to success in Schengen accession.

"By this accession are obtained advantages in simplifying the terms of movement. The accession to Schengen means that Romania is credible, and the other states have confidence that it will be a right guard of EU border 'said Traian Basescu.
