The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, appointed Marcel Ciolacu, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, from the ruling coalition, for the position of Prime Minister, today, as part of an agreement on the rotation of Prime Ministers, intended to ensure political stability.
Marcel Ciolacu stated that by Thursday, the new government should obtain the investiture vote in the Parliament.
"Government rotation is a new model for Romania, which has worked very well", declared President Klaus Iohannis and announced that he had appointed the PSD president, Marcel Ciolacu, to form a new coalition government.
The head of state recalled that Romania has successfully passed through several crises, with a government led by the PNL leader, Nicolae Ciuca.
Nicolae Ciuca: The fact that we are here today to formalize the rotation of prime ministers shows a new level of involvement and seriousness at the level of the governing coalition. Romanians were promised stability and received stability. Romanians were promised a government that solves the big crises that were already on the horizon then and were solved.
Prime Minister-designate Marcel Ciolacu stated that he wants the future Government of Romania, which he will lead, to focus on the economy and reforms.
Marcel Ciolacu: By Thursday, Romania must have a voted government and then we will come to you for the swearing-in. I take full responsibility for the fact that Romania needs these reforms and the National Recovery and Resilience Program. Romania's place is in the European Union and NATO. No matter how much some try to take Romania in another direction, Romania's path is a safe one and with political stability it becomes a certainty.
