The government approved today the long-term strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This has as its objective "neutral Romania in 2050". With that, the infringement procedure launched against the country will be practically closed. The strategy was developed based on an evaluation that took into account the options, costs and benefits of the measures to be applied for to ensure sustainable development in the medium and long term, under the conditions of the obligations to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The document was developed within a project carried out with financial support from the European Commission.
Reporter - Petruta Obrejan: The government also adopted Romania's long-term strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the environment minister explaining that the objective of this strategy is to create a climate-neutral Romania by 2050, especially since all climate changes represent a fundamental problem of society, a problem that does not take into account the borders between states.
Mircea Fechet: We feel it, whether we are talking about extreme weather phenomena, whether we are talking about the desertification of southern Romania, whether we are talking about floods or drought, because we have, statistically speaking, six, sometimes seven years of drought every decade. Climate change is undoubtedly a concern.
Reporter - Petruta Obrejan: According to the minister, in less than two weeks, the strategy will be sent to the European Commission, which will also lead to the closure of the infringement procedure.
According to the strategy approved today, Romania will have, by 2030, over 30.000 recharging stations for electric cars, while currently having around 1.800.
