The government coalition decided to return to the previous salaries cuts with one percentage established by the government, according to the representatives of the parties in power.

After the reunion of the government coalition, the leader of the senators Democrat Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), Fekete Szabo Andraş, confirmed for Radio Romania that the coalition members have reached an agreement regarding the restoration of the budgetary salaries.

“Indeed, we discussed about this. It is a public agreement. It is necessary to return to the salaries that were before these cuts, which would be 15 per cent . Maybe this will happen starting 1st of June, or even faster, but the exact date was not discussed”, said Fekete Szabo Andraş.

The president Traian Băsescu declared Wednesday, within the parliament, that the power has the responsibility to find solutions so that around 1st June the budgetary salaries to be “restored”.

“I think it is my responsibility and also yours to find solutions so that around 1st of June the budgetary salaries are restored”, stated the head of state within the parliament.

On Sunday, he pronounced again for the return to the budgetary salaries.

In an interview given to a private television, Traian Băsescu explained that he did not ask the parliament and the government to analyze the possibility of restoring the budgetary salaries at the previous level from populism, but because there were fulfilled the necessary conditions.

The president specified that the salary increasing would have to be accomplished with 15 per cent, in order to reach the amounts before applying the austerity measures, broadcasted us by the Radio România reporter, Oana Bâlă.

The cuts would had to be recovered at the beginning of last year

The conditioned majority of the budgetary salaries are specified in the government program and it was announced by many parliamentarians of the government coalition which will try in a few months to candidate for a new mandate in legislative.

The budgetary salaries were cut in 2010, the president arguing then that the budgetary incomes, into an economic crisis context, do not allow their payment.

According to authorities, the cuts would have to be recovered at the beginning of 2011.

After the salary decrease with 25 per cent in June 2010, the budgetary people received last year a salary increase with 15%.

Last year, Traian Băsescu declared that in 2012 the budgetary salaries could not return at the previous level from 2010, because there is no money in this respect.

Moreover, the president appealed to the politic class, whom he asked not to promote “the populism” and to prove responsibility and prudence whenever they announce pensions and salaries increase.
