The Gaudeamus Book Fair - a Radio Romania Product
The event, the largest of its kind in Romania, is being attended by 380 publishers, book distributors, cultural and education institutions from Romania and abroad.

There will be more than 500 events organized. The guest of honor of the present edition is the Belgian region of Wallonia- Brussels, and visitors will have the opportunity to discover several aspects of the French-speaking Belgian culture.
Besides presentations of books and translations into Romanian, debates will be held on literature, drama and comics. The debates will enjoy the presence of numerous personalities of the French community in Belgium.
Honorary president of the 2010 Gaudeamus Fair is Jacques Dubois- a philologist, a Romance language expert and professor at the Liege University.
The Fair will also host the exhibition “Le petit monde de Kitty Crowther” which presents the small fantastic universe of a young Wallonian illustrator who has a passion for children’s literature. In 2010 she has received the Astrid Lindgren Award for children and youth literature.
Another guest at the 2010 Gaudeamus Fair is writer Norman Manea, the Romanian writer with the greatest number of books translated abroad, who continued to write in Romanian even after his exile in the US in 1986. This year Norman Manea has received the rank of Commander in the French Order of Arts and Letters.
The Gaudeamus Fair will host numerous book launches, among which the latest novels by Orhan Pamuk, “Museum of Innocence,” and Salman Rushdie, “Luka and the fire of life”, a story dedicated to his youngest son, as well as the author series of this year’s Nobel Prize winner, Mario Vargas Llosa.
At the Gaudeamus Fair Radio Romania’s Culture Channel will put Romania on the international map of the BookCrossing Program. Tens of books will be left in public places for readers to take them, read them and pass them along.
This year’s edition of the Fair also hosts specialized sections such as “Book and multimedia”, “Education Scholarship”, the Children’s Book Fair, as well as first-time sections like “Book-Film” and the ‘Danube’ Trans-European section.
The executive director of the Gaudeamus Fair, Vladimir Epstein, says the fair will once again attract a large number of readers, who will have the opportunity to buy the latest books released on the market and other books for discounted prices.
