RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - Forests will be monitored with video monitoring systems, and the gendarmerie will intervene in situations where illegal cutting is detected. The project adopted by the Parliament has the role of protecting the forests and ensuring effective control over the activities carried out in the forest fund.
Acting President of the Chamber of Deputies Alfred Simonis: "Until this moment, the only ones who could carry out inspections were the foresters, or if the forester did not want to, the inspection could not be carried out. After this law enters into force, the gendarmerie can descend and make checks in the forest funds and can monitor with video cameras. They will have the obligation to supervise the forest roads, and where they see intense activity to go and do check-ups."
From the opposition, USR supports the initiative, but draws attention to the fact that it submitted a similar project two years ago. Deputy Bogdan Rodeanu.
Bogdan Rodeanu: "Romanian forests are being stolen minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day. You could stop the theft from Romania's forests, because a similar bill has been sitting in the drawer for two years. This is not political correctness, this is not caring for the country, this is bad will and incompetence."
The Chamber of Deputies is the decision-making body, and the normative act goes to promulgation, notes RRA reporter Catalin Purcaru.
