The flow of the Danube is increasing every day by 1.000 m³ per second, announces the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management, and the authorities are on alert.
Six of the 18 hydrometric stations monitored by Romanian Waters are located in the Dobrogea-Litoral basin, while the most flood-prone area in Dobrogea is the Danube Delta.
Ana Maria Agiu, spokeswoman for the National Administration of Romanian Waters, said: "When the peak of the floods approaches Romania, our colleagues will already be on the ground because, yes, the Delta areas are the most vulnerable. People there are used to living in a flood-prone area. Even in these conditions, we want to protect them at all costs. This is a priority, we will have teams on the ground monitoring every kilometer of watercourse ready to intervene with means and equipment to protect people and homes as a priority."
