The Ministry of National Defense began on May 1 the process of withdrawing the Romanian military from Afghanistan, according to the joint statement of the North Atlantic Council, adopted at the recent joint meeting of foreign and defense ministers of NATO member states.
The first 70 Romanian soldiers withdrawn from Afghanistan arrived yesterday at Base 90 air transport with a C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the American partner.
The plan to withdraw the more than 600 soldiers is coordinated with the commanders from the theater of operations, so that the process takes place in conditions of maximum safety.
The completion of the procedures will take place by September 11, but for security reasons the timetable for the repatriation of the military is not public.
