The Government is preparing a plan with immediate and medium-term measures to ensure the necessary energy for consumption, regardless of weather conditions - Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu told the participants of the Energy Command, which he convened at the Victoria Palace on Friday. The meeting also emphasized the acceleration of investments in all segments of this sector.
Increasing the production of banded energy, whatever the source, and better communication of electricity measurement data between distributors and suppliers are just some of the immediate measures agreed at the Energy Command.
On the other hand, ANRE will analyze the price formation mechanism in order to protect the final consumer from market fluctuations, and distribution operators will publish and update on their websites the localities and areas affected by breakdowns, as well as the estimated time needed to repair them.
The Chief Executive, Marcel Ciolacu, who was present at the discussions, insisted on the need to accelerate investments in the national transmission network, in new production and energy storage capacities and told those present at the discussions that he will be directly involved in doing everything that is up to the government in terms of legislative changes, financial support for investments, dialogue with European financiers so that this plan materializes.
The executive director of the Federation of Associations of Energy Utility Companies, Daniela Daraban, also said that massive investments of at least €10 million are needed over the next five years.
Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said that, after 15 years, Romania is ready to adopt a national energy strategy, and based on it the Romanian state could plan and prioritize the investments and projects needed to ensure national energy security at a competitive price for electricity and natural gas.
Opposition parties accused the government of failing to ensure that Romania does not become a "net importer of electricity". While the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians supports investing €10 billion in the reactors at Cernavoda and preparing thermal power plants to be operational in special situations, USR says Romania should access European money for major investments to increase energy production.
