The European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansson, has shown that she hopes that by the end of the year a positive decision will be made regarding the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the Schengen Area.
"We recently had an information mission in Bulgaria that was really successful" - said Ylva Johansson. She mentioned that she will use this opportunity to emphasize how well prepared both countries are to join the free movement area.
Government sources from Bucharest announced last week that there are discussions regarding the organization of a Justice and Internal Affairs Council towards the end of December, where Romania's accession to Schengen would be analyzed in two stages.
The first would involve the entry of air borders into this European space from March 2024.
