The European Commission approved the takeover of the Romanian operations of the Italian group Enel by the Public Power Corporation group from Greece.
According to a press release from the EU executive, the European Commission concluded that the acquisition does not raise competition concerns, given the absence of overlaps between the two companies' activities.
Italian utility group Enel announced on March 9 that it will sell its Romanian operations to Greek group Public Power Corporation for 1.26 billion euros, as part of a plan to reduce debt and focus on green energies.
With the completion of the acquisition, the Greek group will become the largest player in the electricity market in Southeast Europe.
