The European Commission has asked the United States to lift visas for Romania and other four European Union states, whose citizens still need a visa to travel to this country, says EurActiv web-site, citing diplomatic sources.
A regulation which came into force on December 20 requires European Union member states "a common response" on visa, especially in cases where foreign countries "apply different treatment to citizens".
Under the new regulation, the Commission may impose temporary visas for citizens of states which do not lift visas for European countries, within six months.
EurActiv also writes that Bucharest and other four capitals, including Warsaw and Sofia, must notify the Commission, until Sunday, on the current situation of citizens' access to American territory, RADIO ROMANIA report.
