The bill to amend the statute of senators and deputies failed to get the required number of votes to be adopted in today's joint session of the Parliament, the last of this legislature.
The bill aimed to toughen sanctions for MPs.
The draft, which was of an organic nature, banned, among other things, the live broadcasting or recording of Chamber of Deputies, Senate, Standing Bureau or committee meetings by means other than those available to Parliament or by electronic means used by the media.
By way of exception, MEPs or senators may only broadcast or record the sitting of the Chamber to which they belong and committee sittings within the perimeter of the sitting room allocated to the parliamentary group to which they belong, an amendment said.
Another amendment stipulated that in the plenary sitting room of each chamber and in the meeting rooms of the Permanent Bureau it is forbidden to display a banner, to use physical violence against a Member of the European Parliament, Senator or other dignitary, to use verbal violence consisting of shouting, insults, threats, invective, slander against a Member of the European Parliament, Senator or other dignitary.
In addition to the existing parliamentary disciplinary sanctions, verbal warning, call to order, withdrawal of the floor or removal from the Chamber during the sitting, the amendments to the Statute proposed to reduce the allowance by up to 50% for a maximum of six months for participating in the display of a banner in the plenary sitting room or for recording or live broadcasting the Chamber of Deputies or Senate sitting.
