RADOR RADIO ROMANIA (12 February) - The contract worth more than one billion lei under which Romania was to buy 20 new electric trains through the NRRP will be suspended or cancelled, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled yesterday.
RRA reporter Alexandru Lancuzov recalls that in November 2023, the Railway Reform Authority signed the contract with Polish manufacturer Pesa, based on the decision of the National Council for the Settlement of Disputes, which had rejected the French Alstom's appeal in autumn.
President Stefan Roseanu told RRA that the appeal was admitted by the Bucharest Court of Appeal after the contract was signed and has retroactive effects.
Last month, the transport minister also signed a contract worth more than three billion lei with the same Polish manufacturer for 62 regional electric trains, also after a challenge rejected by the National Board of Appeal.
