Romania's Constitutional Court rejected on Monday the request of Cristian Terhes, candidate in the presidential elections, to annul the results of the first round of voting, the second round to be held on December 8.
"As part of the constitutionality review on the observance of the procedure for the election of the President of Romania, giving effectiveness to the powers enshrined in the Romanian Constitution, as well as to the respect for the popular vote expressed in the first round of the presidential elections of 2024, the constitutional judges decided, by unanimous vote, to reject as unfounded the appeal of the candidate Terhes Cristian. At the same time, the Court unanimously decided: 1) to confirm and validate the results of the elections for the office of President of Romania in the first round of elections on November 24, 2024; 2) to hold the second round of elections for the office of President of Romania on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in which Mr. Calin Georgescu and Mrs. Elena Valerica Lasconi will participate", announced the President of the Constitutional Court, Marian Enache, on Monday evening.
The Romanian Constitutional Court had asked the Central Electoral Bureau to recount the valid and invalid votes.
The Constitutional Court said in a press release that the Constitutional Court judges, after examining the application by Cristian Vasile Terhes to annul the elections for the office of President of Romania on November 24, unanimously ordered the rechecking and recounting of all ballot papers containing valid and invalid votes.
