The Constitutional Court announced in a press release that it has received the application to vacate the office of President of Romania. The leadership of the two chambers of the Parliament also decided on Monday evening to cancel the joint plenary session on Tuesday evening in which the request to suspend Klaus Iohannis from office, submitted by POT, AUR, S.O.S. Romania and USR, was to have been debated.

In the meantime, the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians has announced that it will table a no-confidence motion next week, together with the other opposition forces, against the government led by Marcel Ciolacu. AUR president George Simion says the move is a natural gesture after Klaus Iohannis resigned.

George Simion: "We are tabling the no-confidence motion next week and we expect the same decent reaction from Marcel Ciolacu - he should leave and stop waiting! Any parliamentarian with common sense from the opposition will sign a no-confidence motion and I am convinced that we will have the necessary number of signatures. We want a return to the second round, we want a return to the constitutional and democratic course."
