The consolidated general budget deficit rose to 2.29% of GDP

The consolidated general budget deficit rose to 2.29% of the gross domestic product after the first five months of this year, from 1.81% of GDP at the end of April, according to data released on Friday by the Ministry of Finance.
The budget deficit, amounting to 26.18 billion lei, is, however, decreasing compared to the negative balance recorded in the same period last year, of 3.68% of GDP.
"This result was achieved in the conditions in which during January-May 2021 the investment expenses were 3.88 billion lei higher than the same period of the previous year, and the exceptional payments generated by the COVID-19 epidemic were 6.56 billion lei (10.44 billion lei, respectively 0.91% of GDP)", states the Ministry of Finance, according to Agerpres.
