Yesterday, a Canadian Air Force detachment officially completed its mission at the Mihail Kogalniceanu military base.
It carried out, for four months, air police missions alongside the Romanian military, under the command of NATO.
The detachment made up of 180 soldiers, pilots and technical personnel and six CF-18 Hornet aircraft carried out reinforced air police missions under NATO command for four months, together with Romanian Air Force soldiers, who operated with F-16 Fighting Falcon and MiG-21 Lancer.
Lieutenant General Viorel Pana, Chief of Staff of the Romanian Air Force: I salute the continued deployment of the Canadian detachments. It is one of the initiatives NATO is implementing to strengthen the Alliance's deterrence and defense posture in the region as Russia continues its armed aggression in Ukraine.
The ceremony was attended by the head of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Lieutenant General Eric Kenny, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence, Simona Cojocaru, and the Canadian Ambassador to Romania, Her Excellency Mrs. Annick Goulet.
In the next four months, the Italian Air Force will take over the baton and continue the missions alongside the Romanian military.
