After the first two months of the year, the budget deficit reached almost 29 billion lei, representing 1.67% of GDP.
This is almost double the figure for the same period last year, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance.
Although total revenues in January and February were more than 17 percent higher than in the first two months of 2023, spending was much higher, up more than 27 percent.
But, "The deficit is not a catastrophe", Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu also conveyed. He believes that by the end of the year Romania will be within the proposed range.
"The pace will be sustained, the economy is self-financing and we will have the highest economic growth in Europe this year", the prime minister believes.
