The authorities call for the responsible use of water resources

RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - More than 150.000 hectares of agricultural crops in 20 counties are extremely affected by the severe drought.
Even the irrigation systems, where they exist, do not work at optimal parameters, because the water level from which they are fed is decreasing.
Authorities call on citizens to use drinking water resources responsibly.
In Gorj county, for example, there are localities where water pressure and flow depend strictly on rational use during this period.
Reporter: Razvan Stoichitoiu - Given the high temperatures and the lack of precipitation recently, the authorities of Gorj appeal to citizens to use drinking water only for domestic use.
Nicoleta Barbat, spokesperson of the Aparegio Society: "We are calling to rationalize water; it is very important in this period of drought to use water only for domestic use. We don't have to water the gardens, we don't have to wash the carpets and so on."
The water operator from Gorj warns consumers that failure to comply with their legal obligations regarding the rational management of water constitutes a contravention and is punishable by a fine.
Nicoleta Barbat: "Fines are applied. The amount is between 75.000 and 80.000 lei for legal entities and between 25.000 and 30.000 lei for individuals. We carry out check-ups together with teams from Romanian Waters and apply sanctions."
