The endowment of the army and the establishment of troops that will be able to participate in missions outside the country in the course of next year were on the Agenda of the Supreme Council of Country’s Defense (CSAT), which was convened on Tuesday at the Cotroceni Palace in the first meeting that included members of the new Government led by Mihai Tudose.
RRA Reporter Oana Bâla, with a synthesis of President Klaus Iohannis’s statements after the CSAT meeting: "Romania is interested in becoming part of the European Union's strategy on the Security and Defense dimension," President Klaus Iohannis said after the CSAT meeting.
This is a European initiative that first seeks to research how the defense industry can be improved and how the national armies can co-operate better, the Head of State explained.
The army endowment plan for the 2017-2026 period was withdrawn from the Agenda of the CSAT Tuesday meeting, President Klaus Iohannis announced, pointing out that he always drew attention to the inadequate endowment of the army.
Klaus Iohannis: "It was found that this document neglected an important issue, namely the political agreement to allocate 2% of GDP for Defense for at least a decade.
The document was, as such, withdrawn by the initiator.
It is to be adapted according to the political will and to be presented at a subsequent CSAT meeting".
The CSAT members also approved to increase the number of the armed forces that can be made available next year for foreign missions".
