Romania has registered a continuous process to recover the disparities that previously separated it from the developed countries, a process that went on despite of the global financial crisis, says National Bank of Romania Deputy Governor Liviu Voinea.
During a forum organized by Profit.ro, he added that our country's accession to the Eurozone is a process that was assumed at the moment of joining the European Union.
Liviu Voinea: "Romania's natural place is in the Eurozone.
The decision to enter the Eurozone had already been taken when we joined the European Union. Entry into the Eurozone, though, does not in itself ensure well-being.
We ourselves should ensure our welfare before we enter the Eurozone.
It is necessary to continue the structural reforms before we enter, so that we can achieve a higher convergence of revenues and of the structure of the economy, in order to be closer to the conditions of an optimal monetary area".
Liviu Voinea also stated that joining the Eurozone does not only mean a change of banknotes or coins, it is a complex process with diverse and profound implications, which can only be triggered by a political decision based on a broad consensus in the society.
