European Union has always been a global leader in sustainability, and sustainable development is clearly anchored in EU treaties, said Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu, speaking at International Conference on "Agenda 2030: Partnerships for Sustainable Development", taking place in Bucharest.
European Union played an important role in setting global UN targets by 2030 in this area, Teodor Meleşcanu also mentioned.
Teodor Meleşcanu: Conclusions of the European Council highlight the central importance of sustainable development for the European Union, but mention that it is in EU interest to contribute and play a leading role in implementation of Agenda 2030 and its 17 objectives. European Council calls for accelerating implementation of Agenda 2030 both globally and internally, as an overall EU priority, for the benefit of its citizens and to support its credibility at European and global level.
International conference is attended by governmental coordinators who lead the process of implementing 2030 Agenda, from EU Member States, Eastern Partnership, Western Balkans, Central Asia, and by representatives of civil society, RRA Reporter Carmen Gavrilă said.
