Teenagers will be able to travel abroad unaccompanied from the age of 16

President Klaus Iohannis promulgated on Thursday, July 20, the normative act to supplement Law no. 248/2005 regarding the regime of free movement of Romanian citizens abroad.
According to the law, minor Romanian citizens who have reached the age of 16 will be able to travel abroad unaccompanied with the consent of their parents or legal representatives.
"by exception (...), minor Romanian citizens who have reached the age of 16 can travel abroad unaccompanied, with the consent of their parents or legal representatives, under the conditions of this law", the promulgated normative act states.
Also, "by exception (...), the minor who has reached the age of 16, holder of an individual travel document or, as the case may be, of an identity card, simple identity cards or electronic identity cards, who is going to travel abroad to visit relatives or for studies, to participate in official competitions or to undergo medical treatment without which his life or health is endangered and presents supporting documents in this regard, can travel abroad unaccompanied by an adult, if he presents to the border police bodies an authenticated declaration of both parents or, as the case may be, of the parent to whom the minor was entrusted or with whom his domicile was established by a final court decision or a notarial agreement, as the case may be, of the parent who alone exercises parental authority based on a final court decision, of the surviving parent or of his legal representative, which includes their agreement regarding the trip respectively by the minor, to the state or states of destination, to the period in which the trip is to take place, as well as to the purpose of the trip", the law also stipulates.
The law enters into force 30 days after its publication in the Official Gazette of Romania.
