Romanian-Dutch team Horia Tecău / Jean-Julien Rojer won, on Friday, their first US Open men’s doubles championship, in the last Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year.
The 12th-seeded team of Tecău and Rojer defeated the 11th-seeded Spaniards Feliciano Lopez / Marc Lopez with 6 -4, 6-3 in the final at Flushing Meadows arena in New York.
This is the second Grand Slam title for Tecău and Rojer, who won Wimbledon in 2015.
According to AGERPRES, the previous Romanian to win a title at the US Open was Ilie Năstase in 1975, alongside Jimmy Connors, after 6-4, 7-6 against the Dutch-American team Tom Okker / Marty Riessen.
