RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - In order to help young drug addicts, two associations - "Ajungem mari" and "Preventis" - are running a national programme aimed at preventing the use of prohibited substances. Thus, 250 people aged 12-18 from Bucharest and nine counties will receive educational, moral and emotional support for six months. Dozens of volunteers and employees of the General Directorate for Social Assistance will be trained to recognise young addicts and help them.
Vivianda Nicolae, vice-president of the "Ajungem mari" Association: Basically, there will be workshops in the form of games, so that we can reach the children as well as possible. Children, in general, in schools or in various workshops receive information, but we think, from our experience, in fact, that it is much better that the volunteer who works with that child, and is close to him, and knows him, and can work in smaller groups, can transmit this information more delicately to the children, so that the impact is greater.
