Statement of the Minister of Environment on the issue of bear attacks

Articol de Radiojurnal, 28 Iulie 2021, 05:04

More and more bears are arriving in inhabited areas. Two nights ago, another shepherd was attacked by a bear in the village of Casinu Nou in Harghita County; he has injuries to his chest and abdomen and is receiving anti-rabies treatment at the Miercurea Ciuc Emergency Hospital.

The Minister of Environment, Barna Tanczos, declared yesterday, in Alba Iulia, that the implementation of some European money projects will follow, both for the safety of the species and for the protection of the population:

Barna Tanczos: More and more specimens have appeared in the inhabited area, that is why the Government approved this ordinance for immediate intervention in inhabited areas, in order to restore the safety of citizens in these localities. The implementation of projects financed from European funds follows. The management of the species must provide solutions both for the protection of the species and the provision of this natural habitat for bears, and for the safety of citizens. From 4.000 - 4.500 bears in 2007 we ended up having 6.500 - 7.000 in 2016.
