Spain will send F-18 and Eurofighter fighter jets to Romania and Bulgaria, to help strengthen NATO's eastern flank, in the context of the war in Ukraine.
The planes will arrive in Romania, at the Fetesti military base, on December 1, and will stay until March 31, next year.
Currently stationed at the military base in Zaragoza, they will have the mission of patrolling the airspace in the area.
They will also have training missions. It is Spain's response to the allies' request to come with a greater contribution to NATO's response and prevention capacity, according to the press release of the Spanish Ministry of Defense.
Also from this press release, the information emerges that Spain has already installed a large surface radar at Schitu, in Constanta; it has been operational since October 17 and is accompanied by 38 soldiers.
It will be on the territory of Romania until March 31, but there is the possibility of extension until June 30. In Bulgaria, during the same period, six Eurofighter jets and 130 military personnel will arrive at the Bezmer base.
