RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - There was a solemn meeting on Monday afternoon in the Parliament, dedicated to the National Day of Romania. Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, as well as representatives of the parliamentary groups spoke.
RRA correspondent, Alexandra Cristea, followed the speeches and reported: "Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca called on the political class, civil society and the media to institute a moratorium and, together, try to use the year 2023 as an electoral respite. He urged both the power and the opposition to sit down at the table for rational discussions on the future of Romania, because, Nicolae Ciuca said, we have a historical duty: to take Romania among the great European democracies. For his part, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, said that December 1 represents an example of the way in which the Romanian people have always found, in the most difficult moments, an internal force to overcome borderline situations. That is precisely why, now, when we are going through several overlapping crises, we have the duty to be in solidarity with all those who need it more, concluded Marcel Ciolacu. From the opposition, the president of USR, Catalin Drula, spoke from the rostrum of the Parliament about the patriotism that must characterize every politician in Romania. Patriotism means standing up for democracy, civil rights, and fundamental freedoms. For his part, the leader of the AUR, George Simion, conveyed Happy Birthday to the Romanians working abroad and appealed that in these solemn moments we should not forget Bessarabia and the reunification of the two states."
