Weather is extremely cold across Romania, with temperatures of -9 to -13 Celsius degrees at night. Snow and blizzard caused school closure in Bucharest and other locations for at least two days, and disrupted rail traffic.
Romania's CFR railway company announced 37 trains were suspended due to the frigid temperatures and dozens more were running late.
Air traffic is also affected due to bad weather, TAROM Airport officials already having announced on Monday eight flight delays, and a Ryanair canceled flight, running on Rome-Bucharest-Rome route.
(TAROM) Iași-Bucharest, Belgrade-Bucharest and Budapest-Bucharest flights were delayed at arrival, also (Pegasus) Bucharest-Istanbul, (Ryanair) Bucharest-Berlin, (Wizzair) Bucharest-London, (TAROM) Bucharest-London and (TAROM) Bucharest-Timișoara, at departure.
Frosty weather will continue on Tuesday, February 27, when Bucharest will face -7 degrees Celsius during the day.
It will also snow in the capital in this period, according to meteorologists.
Across the country, temperatures will stay between -2 and -12 degrees Celsius during the day, and -5 and -15 during the night. The lowest temperatures are forecasted for northern Moldova and eastern Transylvania, of -18 – -20 degrees Celsius during the night.
Until March 1, over half of the Romanian territory is under Code Orange for blizzard, low temperatures and snowfall especially in Moldova, Eastern Transylvania, Muntenia, Oltenia and Dobrogea. Rest of the country is under Code Yellow.
According to forecasts, weather will start to improve by the end of the week.
