The legislative proposal aimed at protecting and maintaining the single tax rate for the next 10 years will be put to the vote today in the Senate plenary as the first chamber to vote on it. The initiative comes from PNL, while PSD is more in favour of moving to progressive taxation. A vote is expected in the Chamber of Deputies, as the decision-making body, on the proposal to increase penalties for trafficking in human beings and minors.
Reporter: Alina Stanuta: "The document that comes to a vote in the Senate, as the first chamber, stipulates that after the entry into force of the law, and until the end of 2033, no legislative acts shall be adopted that aim to modify or eliminate the single tax rate on income of any kind and on profits. The initiators point out that over the years this single rate has had positive macroeconomic, fiscal, budgetary and social effects.
The legislative proposal to protect the single tax rate in Romania for the next 10 years received a negative opinion from the Legislative Council, while the Economic and Social Council gave a favourable opinion.
The Chamber of Deputies has a legislative proposal to increase the penalties for trafficking in human beings and minors, slavery and child pornography on its agenda. The document, which is awaiting a vote by MEPs, stipulates that for these offences, traffickers risk up to 12 years in prison and up to 20 years if minors are involved. Furthermore, the possibility of having these sentences suspended by the court is removed."
On the other hand, representatives of electricity and gas suppliers, as well as ANRE and ANPC, are expected at the Senate's Economic Committee tomorrow to discuss an issue raised by many end-users who are asking for access to information not only online, but also through physical centres where they can talk face-to-face with energy operators.
The same committee is also scheduled to hold debates on Wednesday with the participation of the Competition Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and the ANPC. The discussions are aimed at practices considered abusive by some Romanian food producers in their dealings with large retail chains, i.e. removing local products from the shelves.
