The bill providing for the introduction of the COVID-19 green certificate for medical staff, but also for those in public institutions and office buildings, was rejected by the Senate on Wednesday, October 27th.
The adoption required 69 votes "for", but only 67 parliamentarians voted in favor of the law. The project was supported by the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union (USR) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), while the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and the Alliance Party for the Union of Romanians (AUR) senators criticized it.
Opponents of the introduction of the green certificate in public institutions say the measure is discriminatory. On the other hand, the supporters point out that the hundreds of daily deaths caused by COVID-19 should no longer allow parliamentarians to be divided and that they must pass laws in order to protect people.
The document on the introduction of the green certificate in public institutions will go to the Chamber of Deputies for the decisional vote.
