World military spending of last year saw the largest increase over the last decade, amid growing rivalries and regional conflicts - a report released at the Munich Security Conference shows.
Host of the event, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, described the situation as having a 'destructive dynamic' on a global level. Steinmeier criticized the great powers - the United States, China and Russia - for making the world less secure by the way they approach international politics. Dozens of heads of state, ministers, business leaders, representatives of international organizations and academia are analyzing the threats to the security of the Euro-Atlantic area, the neighborhood crises and the relationship between the European Union and NATO.
RRA Special Envoy Carmen Gavrilă: As every year at this conference, the United States is noted by a large number of representatives, led by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,Nancy Pelosi.
Agenda includes a new topic that raises concerns. Titled 'Absence of the West', topic refers to the decline of the West and of the western values on a global level. The annual report of the Conference notes that in today's world, the West is weakening from the inside, crushed by populism, and connection between Europe and America is weakening. Report also shows that Russia and China are significantly contributing to the decline of Western powers, on a global level.
In conclusion, report suggests that the biggest problem and at the same time the solution is for Europeans and Americans to succeed in reaching a real transatlantic common approach.
