There are more and more members of Romania’s Social Democratic Party (SDP/PSD in Romanian) demanding resignation of former Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă from party leadership. This is not only because of the result Dăncilă had in the presidential elections, but because she had brought, through the "back door", in the party Executive Committee, several union leaders, including Gabriel Oprea.
RRA Reporter Iulia Gherman:PSD leader, Viorica Dăncilă, receives more and more criticism from some of the party's leading representatives after yesterday's election result. President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, says that PSD needs a new beginning and a serious analysis of the activity of the leaders at central level. General Secretary of the Social Democrats, Mihai Fifor, is calling for a new party leadership. He argues that there is a need for openness to those who can bring an added value to the Social Democratic Party, but points out that the reconstruction of the party cannot begin with people who have nothing to do with the goals of the PSD. Statement refers to the presence of the former leader of the UNPR Gabriel Oprea in the leadership of the party, a presence strongly criticized by PSD Vice-President Gabriela Firea, who said that she stands back from actions to include in the Executive Committee of people who no longer run parties but unions.
