The Plenum of the Superior Council of Magistracy will be the one to designate the prosecutors who will carry out the prosecution in cases concerning magistrates.
A draft law to this effect was adopted today by the Government and will be submitted to Parliament.
The measure is necessary because after the abolition of the Section for the Investigation of Crimes in the Judiciary, Romania has in fact only 32 prosecutors who can prosecute such cases, with another 27 posts still unfilled, says the Justice Ministry.
Last year, almost 6.700 cases involving criminal offences committed by magistrates were investigated and almost half were still pending at the start of this year.
