School inspectors claim that the recommendation made last week by the Ministry of Education on the implementation of a card access system can be a solution to reduce the number of absences and increase security.
New access systems could be introduced starting in the autumn.
Schools that will implement the system based on magnetic card will be able to monitor students much easier.
Thus, at only five minutes after entering the school and validating the card, students will be registered in a catalog that comes into the possession of all teachers and form teacher.
In addition, people who are neither students nor employees of the school will not have access to the school, which enhances security.
The General School Inspector of Buzau, Florina Stoian, said that such a system was welcome, but its implementation was up to each school.
"It is not mandatory from 1 September in any case", Florina Stoian said.
She said that the cards would contribute to students' safety because they would have access only by validating the magnetic cards and the date, time and name of the student entering the school would be registered and thereby a catalog with absences would be established in a very short period of time.
Implementation of the system decided by the Administrative Board of each school
Florina Stoian said that students would have to support the cost of the card, 4 lei, and the programme that amounts to 1 500 lei would be paid by each school.
In order to implement the card access systems is required the vote of the members of the Administrative Board of each school, namely that of teachers, local municipalities and parents.
The headmaster of the Mihai Bobocea College in Fălticeni, Olguţa Popa, said that the money for such a system should be included in the budget of each school.
In addition, parents often come with solutions to ensure students' safety and monitoring, but when they have to pay to implement them they give up on the ideas.
"Magnetic cards will be installed only depending on the budget of each school. Certainly, if we are supported by the Local Council we will try to achieve this objective."
"It is necessary for a school to have such systems to ensure security, protection and security of students and staff", Olguţa Popa said.
Starting in September all students in schools and high schools in Bucharest will be monitored in the educational, social and family context by the school psychologist who in collaboration with the form teacher will write reports. The measure is aimed at reducing and preventing juvenile delinquency.
