"The Ministry of Administration and Interior’s primary objective is Romania’s Schengen accession, as well as rooting out ministerial staff corruption", the Minister Traian Igaş stated in Oradea.
"Technically there are no problems,’ the minister of interior added, also mentioning that six of the seven evaluation missions were positive.
Traian Igas said that, beside border control, Romania’s Schengen accession depends on rooting out Border Police corruption.
The Minister of Administration and Interior had a meeting with Bihor chiefs of arms to find out about the problems ministerial employees are faced with, as well as to evaluate the condition of ministerial owned buildings, because, after the accession to Schengen, a part of the Border Police will be reassigned, and the buildings will be transferred to the local administration units or to county authorities.
Together with the chief of the Anti-Corruption General Directorate, Liviu Popa, and the chief of the Romanian Border Police, Ioan Buda, minister Traian Igaş also took part in the annual EPAC conference – European Partners Against Corruption – in progress for two days at the Băile Felix.
