RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The salaries of some categories of public servants are increasing, according to a bill adopted on Tuesday by the Chamber of Deputies.
The largest increase, of 25%, will be received by employees from the Ministry of Health. Initially, the document provided for increases only for the budget nominees in project teams with external funds, but the deputies decided that they will increase the basic salaries of all employees in some ministries.
Coalition officials have argued that this is an attempt to stop people from leaving the system, while USR MPs accuse an explosion of public spending in a time of multiple crises.
RRA correspondent Iulia Gherman followed the debates:
"USR accused the modification of the initial project by including some amendments of the governing coalition that ensure the increase of salaries for the staff of the Mystery of Health, by up to 25%, and of the Ministries of Culture and Transport, by up to 15%."
USR deputy Claudiu Nasui: “There is a big difference between increasing the salaries of all Romanians and increasing the salaries of only public employees. We are in this situation because of this explosion of public spending, because of the fact that you have unknowingly increased government spending on debt and created inflation. We will go bankrupt."
PNL, PSD and UDMR stated that the new regulations try to stop the massive departures from the targeted public sectors, but also to balance the increases with the other ministries.
PSD MP - Alfred Simonis: “We are increasing the salaries of the people in the system, teachers, doctors, other public servants who are affected by the increase in prices. You tell us every day that prices have gone up, and when it comes to raising wages, you criticize us for doing so. We don't understand anything anymore."
AUR supported the project, but also another legislative amendment adopted by the Chamber of Deputies, as a decision-making body, which provides for a 10% increase in the salaries of teachers-coaches in school and university sports groups, but also for staff in the Ministries of Tourism and Sports.”
