A Russian diplomat in Bucharest has been expelled after a Romanian was accused of spying for Moscow.
Today, the Romanian Foreign Ministry declared the Russian charge d'affaires in Bucharest persona non grata in the country on the grounds that he had been carrying out activities contrary to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Russia will give an appropriate response to the decision, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
A Romanian citizen has been remanded in custody on charges of treason by DIICOT after sending to the Russian Embassy in Bucharest images of Romanian or NATO military targets near Tulcea and images of a military convoy travelling to Ukraine.
