Romanians with photovoltaic panels will be able to give electricity to their neighbours.
The Ministry of Energy said that it intends to speed up the legislative framework for creating so-called energy communities.
This will allow all consumers to benefit from renewable energy produced at their own place of consumption or produced in their neighbourhood, within the energy community to which they belong.
The initiative comes as the photovoltaic market in Romania has entered a new period of accelerated growth, says a press release from the ministry.
The production potential is estimated at nearly 835 million kWh, enough electricity for about 695.000 homes.
The first meeting of a working group to develop energy communities in Romania is scheduled for early June.
