A Romanian man who launched a cyber-attack on the California servers of the popular online game World of Warcraft was sentenced on Monday to one year in prison.
According to France Presse, 38-year-old Călin Mateiaş from Bucharest was extradited to the United States to face charges after blocking thousands of players in World of Warcraft in 2010, to take revenge on a rival. Prosecutors say he was motivated by a childish desire to win the game and to see others lose.
In February, Mateiaş admitted to a Los Angeles court that he intentionally damaged a protected computer and last month, he paid $ 30,000 to the game publisher. As a result, US authorities dropped charges against him in a separate hacking case.
