Virgin Beech Forests of Nerei Springs, Nerei-Beușnița Gorges, Domogled-Cerna Valley in Caraș-Severin have been accepted in the UNESCO World Heritage List

The Romanian Virgin Forests of Nerei Springs, Nerei-Beușnița Gorges, Domogled-Cerna Valley in Caraș-Severin have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in the 41st session of the World Heritage Committee (Krakow, Poland).
In August 25, 2016, the Romanian Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests announced that 65,000 hectares of virgin and secular forests in Romania were registered in 2016 as UNESCO World Heritage Sites under the name "The Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and the Ancient Beech Forests of Germany”.
These forests (60,000 hectares) are in Caraș-Severin: Domogled - Cerna Valley, 51,463.39 ha; Nerei-Beusniţa Gorges, 5962.53 ha; Nerei Springs, 2495.51 ha.
