Romanian Senate has adopted, on Monday, simple motion initiated by the PSD against Finance Minister Florin Cîţu (liberal). 59 senators voted in favor, 56 against and two abstained. According to the Constitution, adoption of a simple motion does not entail dismissal of the minister concerned.
During debates, the PSD claimed that the current Finance Minister made random and irresponsible statements. PSD senators blamed Minister Cîțu that following the random statements he made at the beginning of his term, the exchange rate of the national currency decreased in relation to the euro and the US dollar.
Social-Democrats' approach is a political one, came the reply of Finance Minister, who showed that former PSD Minister Eugen Teodorovici knew from the beginning of the year that the budget deficit would increase to 4% without additional measures. As Florin Cîţu said, he only told the truth about the country's economic situation.
Immediately after announcement of the result, Minister Cîțu declared that he would not resign from this position, unless the party would ask this.
